Here at Mixed Staffing, we are lucky enough to have some office dogs that brighten up our day. We understand that not all workplaces are able to accommodate our furry friends, however should your employer be open to it and the environment is right, here are a few benefits of having pets  in the workplace.

To help celebrate National Pet Day, we wanted to share some benefits of having dogs in the workplace!

  1. Reduces stress (obviously): Having dogs around is an instant mood booster for a lot of people.
  2. Dogs can bring the team together: People tend to want to be where the dog is, meaning that people will gather around each other! Also, the pet will create a shared interest with employees.
  3. Encourages a healthy lifestyle: Dogs need walks. Humans need exercise. It’s a win win for everyone.
  4. Increases Productivity: You may think dogs would do the opposite or be a distraction, but actually, taking short breaks to play with the dog or take it for a walk allows employees to relax, leaving them to return to work refreshed.
  5. Dogs won’t be home alone: Dogs don’t like to be left home for too long. Also, it may result in employees working longer hours since they don’t have to rush home to feed the animals.

Overall, dogs (and other pets) make people happier, more productive, and less stressed. What more could you ask for?

Virtually, pets still have a positive impact on the office. Simply watching a funny cat video online during the work day improves morale.

A few things to consider before introducing a dog to the office:

  1. Ensure animals are allowed in the building.
  2. Make sure employees aren’t allergic to or scared of dogs.
  3. Make sure your dog is well behaved.
